Days before world record holder marathoner Eliud Kipchoge left Kenya for Viena, Austria to break make history by running a marathon under two hours, giant service provider Safaricom promised Kenyans free YouTube bundles to watch the much hyped race.
And as expected Kenyans were ready for it and applauded Safaricom for the great move. Hours before the race kicked of, Safaricom then provided a special USSD code for its customers to dial and subscribe to the free YouTube bundles.
*159# was the USSD code and after dialing you will automatically receiver 1,590 MBs.
Most Kenyans did but then frustrations followed their after. Netizens complained of porr network connection fueling indications that Safaricom was using the INEOS 1:59 challenge to market themseves.
