Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has ran out of options after DP William Ruto abandoned him folowing the corruption charges agaisnt him.
The Governor who has nowhere to run least of all reach President Uhuru Kenyatta, is now seeking ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s help to access the President so that the graft cases hanging on his neck are expunged from the courts.
This comes even as the president said that he is no longer going to help those implicated in corruption.
In late August, President Uhuru warned senior government officials and businessmen implicated in corruption not to expect help or intervention from him.
The President said people arrested over corruption should not bother calling him when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji and his Directorate of Criminal Investigations counterpart George Kinoti strike.
“You will just read in the newspapers that someone has been picked up by detectives. It is upon everyone to think over their actions. The culture of calling for help is no more, it will be upon you to defend yourself,” the President said.
“Ni noma, hizo simu zilizimwa zamani” (Things are thick. My phones were switched off a long time ago) – President Uhuru Kenyatta Said
To add salt to injury, Waititu no longer runs Kiambu County government and he is likely to lose his seat after the High Court ruled he is only allowed to be back in office after the graft charges on him are cleared.
Ferdinand Waititu was among a crop of Mount Kenya leaders, in the Tanga Tanga wing of Jubilee constantly hurling expletives at ODM leader Raila Odinga and attacking his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta. At one point the governor claimed Odinga was a political con seeking power through the back door using the handshake.
“When Raila tells you to close your eyes, please, instead open them widely,” Waititu said in July.
After being stopped from accessing the VVIP Podium as well as Mombasa State House during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Coast, Governor Waititu’s chances of surviving the current woes he is facing have remained slim, something that has made him increasingly desperate.
