Giant telecom company Safaricom has announced that some of its services will be unavailable to users in scheduled maintenance from 2 am to 8 am on Sunday, March 22.
Safaricom, in a statement which went rounds on social media, said airtime top-up channels including M-Pesa and other product purchases; Talktime minutes, SMS and data bundles will be unavailable during the maintenance.
Customers will also not be able to access Bonga point services, and all balance inquiry services for airtime, SMS and data bundles.
“All calls, SMS services, M-Pesa, internet and data services will remain available during the maintenance period. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” Safaricom said.
Safaricom recently waived M-Pesa transaction costs for transactions up to Ksh1,000 after a presidential directive in the firms’ recommended efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus.
“The meeting followed a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to explore ways of deepening mobile money usage to reduce the risk of spreading the virus through physical handling of cash,” said Michael Joseph, Safaricom’s Chief Executive.
