Gospel Artist Ruth Matete had requested for help from her neighbours at GreatWall apartments in Athi River, according to WhatsApp messages seen by KenyanBulletin.com
The Tusker Project fame winner through an appointed secretary of the fundraising committee a Ms Anne Njeru ha sent a distress message concerning events at Block B5 where Ms Matete and her husband pastor John Apewajoye lived.
At first, most of the residents were adamant.
Some stated that the gas explosion might be a hoax meant to fleece them of their money by a lady that won millions (5 million) years back from winning the Tusker Project fame 5th contest.
“The former tusker project fame millionaire wants funds for her hubby who got an accident through gas explosion. My question is as u can see stated there that he is in ICU and that we should channel funds the bill is to be settle on Friday 3rd. Somebody is in ICU and we are being given a deadline to settle the bill is he going to die on Friday or it’s a scam ??♀️”, a resident wrote.
Yesterday, news broke about the death of her husband.
The news about his death was confirmed on Sunday, April 12, by the singer on her Facebook page who asked for prayers during the difficult time.
According to reports, the husband, pastor John Apewajoye, was working on fixing their gas cylinder which was not working at first.
He took it outside and tried to release some of the excess gas and returned it back to the house and tried to light it up leading to an explosion.
Apparently, when he released some of the excess gas, most of it was absorbed by clothes hanging on the lines which caught fire and accidentally got to him.
Ruth and the neighbours were able to put out the fire and he was taken to the hospital where he was admitted to the ICU.
It is said that Ruth had asked for friends to help out in fundraising for her husband’s hospital bills which were rising by the day.
The singer had been told that John was out of danger and would heal slowly but things turned for the worst when he died just a few days after getting out of ICU.
