Gor Mahia Football Club’s Executive Committee (EC) has selected three men to sit in the electoral board to managed which club’s elections slated for August 8.
The three are chairman Henry Ogoye Kowero, a manager at Kenya Ports Authority, Kennedy Mbara, an advocate who will serve in the secretary general position and Council of Gor Mahia branches chairman Carilus Onyango a board member.
The three are tasked to supervise and deliver a free and fair elections. They will also scrutinize nominations papers of the aspirants, determinenomination fee and make the final list of aspirants to vie for various positions.
They will set and announce dates when campaigns will kick-off, tally the votes and declare winners.
Francis Wasuna, the outgoing club’s vice chairman said the names of the the three men were arrived at during an EC last week meeting and all members trusted them with the responsibility to conduct fair elections.
But Wasuna insisted that the requirement of each aspirant to be a degree holder is for all elective positions as spelt in Gor Mahia’s constitution.
“The ball is now on the electoral board’s court and they should discharge their duties within the law and Gor Mahia’s constitution,” Wasuna said.
Aspirants are already gearing up for the exercise and announccing their interests.
Sally Bollo, the club’s outgoing treasurer in a statement said she will be going for the vice chairman postion held by Wasuna who has announced he will be defending hisn seat. Former Migori MP John Pesa, who was the first vice chairman, has also announced interest in Wasuna’s position.
But not a single aspirant has declared the chairman position held by Lawyer Ambrose Rachier .
Outgoing organising secretary Judith Anyango is seeking to be the next treasurer, a position held by Dolfina Odhiambo of Gor Mahia Augmentin Fund.
Only the posts of chairman, vice chairman, secretary general and honorary treasurer are up for grabs in this year’s elections. Gor-mahia’s constitution scrapped other seven positions to make the EC lean to allow easy decision making on club affairs.
