Kakamega County Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi has died.
Sumbi succumbed to COVID-19 on the morning of Thursday, October 29.
He has been battling COVID-19 for days.
Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya named Sumbi Chief of Staff in February 2018.
His comes just a day after Oparanya closed down the Kakamega county headquarters after 57 health workers tested positive for the new disease.
Oparanya, during a press conference on Wednesday, October 28, directed all county staff to undergo testing after several cases were reported among staffers.
As of Wednesday, the county boss said Kakamega had registered 316 cases out of which 155 were undergoing treatment in various health facilities within the devolved unit.
Seven others, he said, had died of the disease.
