A storm is brewing within the top leadership of Wiper Democratic Movement after the management of Maanzoni Lodge in Athi River, Machakos county exposed the party for failing to clear lodging bills.
The letter addressed to the party’s Secretary General Judith Sijeny and signed by Kanini Musau is accusing the party led by the former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka of refusing to foot their bill after they used the facility for accommodation, catering and conferencing.
“Your latest promise via a Whatsapp message was to pay in full on November 13, 2020- a promise you failed to keep. We have opted to not engage our lawyers as yet but we implore you to consider this letter the final correspondence from us on the matter.” The letter read.
The Lodge is demanding the settlement of the outstanding bills within 14 days of receipt, failure to which they have threatened to take the party to court.
Maanzoni Lodge is owned by Chris Musau and the late Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo’s second wife.
Wiper is believed to have gone broke after the former financier Johnston Muthama ditched Kalonzo for the Deputy President William Ruto.
DP Ruto has expressed his bid to go for the country’s top seat in an election where the former VP will also feature in the ballot.
But Kalonzo’s party has recently made head lines over financial bickering even within the party ranks.
In September 2020 the Wiper Leader was on the neck of the renegade Mukueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana over remittance of party fees.
“We write to remind you that despite several reminders to you, you have failed, refused and neglected to honor or pay the said subscriptions which is in contravention of Article 29 (g) of the Wiper Democratic Movement Kenya Constitution and the Certificate of Pledge that you signed,” Wiper said in a letter.
Kalonzo’s party went ahead and issued a fourteen-day notice to Kibwana and his deputy Adelina Mwau to respectively pay Sh600,000 and Sh1,050,000 membership fees failure to which they were to face serious disciplinary action.
The former VP has accused gover of behaving like Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua who used him to ascend to power then ditched him and formed the chap chap party.
Muthama promised Kalonzo ‘moments’ like this when he left the party. He said Kalonzo is too broke to run the party and presidential campaign so he will lose in 2022.
