Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has said that he will vie for the County’s gubernatorial seat again and serve his people once again.
Waititu who was speaking during an interview with Kameme FM stated that he believes that he will be back on top because his impeachment was politically initiated.
He explained that the main reason why he is not the Kiambu County Governor anymore was because of his first mistake which was making James Nyoro his running mate.
He revealed that at first he wanted Kamene FM presenter Karungo Thang’wa as his running mate but he settled for Nyoro.
“I am hopeful that I will serve Kiambu residents once again because I believe that my removal from office was politically instigated. The main reason why I am out of office is because of the impeachment which was led by Kiambu Speaker Stephen Ndichu and Nyoro,” Waititu said.
Waititu complained that despite filing a case in court to counter his impeachment, it was never heard.
He also refuted reports from the Kiambu County Assembly that claimed that 63 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) voted for his impeachment.
He made it clear that he was only impeached by 57 members.
He also pointed out that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report should address the issue of MCAs impeaching Governors arguing that the legislatures can be easily corrupted adding that the work should be left for the public to decide.
“The Kiambu county assembly reported that 63 ward reps impeached me which is not true because I was only impeached by 57 members. The ward representatives can be manipulated or bribed to vote in a certain way,” he asserted.
In July last year, Waititu, his wife, and eight county officials were charged with KSh. 580 million scandal.
It was reported that the family was said to have received kickbacks from suppliers in the county.
He was later impeached in January 2020 after the impeachment motion was brought up by Ndenderu MCA Solomon Kinuthia.
