A section of City-based Orange Democratic Movement party officials from Kibra Constituency have decamped to Deputy President William Ruto linked UDA party ahead of the 2022.
Through a statement yesterday Thursday June 10, 2021, UDA party officials confirmed receipt of the officials, adding that they endorsed the Hustler Nation Agenda to fronting it Kibra slums.
Reports from the party officials indicate that the ODM officials switched camp because the bottom-up economic approach championed for by the hustler nation resonates well with them and the Kibra people in general.
“Secretary-General Veronica Maina receives ODM officials from Kibra Constituency who defected to UDA. They endorsed UDA’s hustlers’ empowerment agenda that they said resonates well with Kibra residents,” the party said.
The Raila Odinga led outfit is yet to issue an official statement regarding the recent development and the way forward for the party officials, as the party conducts its grassroots ahead of the general elections.
The move is a blow to the Orange party as Kibra Constituency is one of the party strongholds, commonly referred to as “Raila Odinga’s bedroom”, that rarely welcomes other politicians.
The Second in command is however adamant to change the narrative, as he make in makes inroads to to former Odinga strongholds in popularizing the hustler agenda ahead of the polls.
Dr. Ruto is also giving Odinga sleepless nights in his Nyanza home turf, with recent reports out that Migori Governor Okoth Obado is on the verge of decamping to the hustler house.
Further reports show that DP Ruto met the governors brother recently in what appears as a move to paving way for the grand move.
A similar feat is also witnessed in the Coastal region where the DP’s influence has been very significant, as witnessed by the number of followers gained and a further seat clinched in the recent Msambweni mini polls.
