Charity Ngilu urges Raila, Kalonzo to unite ahead of 2022 Presidential election – Kenyan_Report

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join hands and work together ahead of 2022 Presidential elections.

The Kitui Governor suggested the two should work together so that Deputy President William Ruto’s chances of succeeding President Uhuru come 2022 general elections are reduced.

Speaking on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the burial ceremony of the late former Kibwezi Member of Parliament Kalembe Ndile, Ngilu claimed if Kalonzo and Raila ran separately, Ruto would have a field day in the presidential election.

“If Kalonzo and Raila fail to unite ahead of 2022, then Ruto’s chances of success will be high. We must accept and work with Raila so that we beat Ruto [in the 2022 election],” Ngilu said.

“How will the Kamba community benefit if they choose
to vote for Kalonzo and lose the presidency?” she posed.

Ngilu also urged Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, his Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to negotiate with Raila and field one presidential candidate for the 2022 election.

Ngilu further questioned the handshake agreement’s benefits to the Ukambani region claiming that it has only benefited other regions.

“We have seen development being channeled to other regions. [As Ukambani people], we must sit down and address how handshake would benefit us too,” Ngilu stated.

Re-emphasising her stand in 2022, Ngilu said she
would ensure she craft a formula that would see Kalonzo and Raila in one team,
adding she did not want to be part of Ruto’s hustler nation.

On his part, Raila Odinga said he was ready to work
with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to increase their chances of forming
the next government.

“Kalonzo and I won’t go separate ways. We will work
together so that we rescue Kenya from thieves’ capture,” he said.

Raila and Kalonzo have, in the last two general
elections, fielded a joint ticket, which lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta and
Ruto pair in 2013 and 2017.

The Wiper Party leader has since said he will run
for the presidency alone in the 2022 general election, stating he does not need
to be endorsed by Raila to win the contest.
