Married to a music legend with two gorgeous kids and a glittering career as a cookbook author, Chrissy Teigen had the recipe for success.
Posting prolifically, she was praised for her no-nonsense approach often baring her soul to her followers, most notably when she announced she could never be a mother again.
However, it was social media that would see the star’s undoing when shocking reports emerged that Chrissy had told American reality star Courtney Stodden to kill herself on Twitter in 2011.
The Sports Illustrated model had sent Courtney, who now identifies as non-binary, a string of abusive messages when they were still a teenager.
They included telling them to die, to take their own life and to “go to sleep forever”.
Courtney, who is now 26, was just 16 years old at the time.
After a huge backlash, Chrissy issued an apology on Twitter, saying: “I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be.
“I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behaviour.”
She added: “I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fuelled all this, I want to also publicly apologise. I’m so sorry, Courtney.
“I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am.
“And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago.”
In response to Chrissy’s apology, Courtney told TMZ: “I accept her apology and forgive her. But, the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private. In fact, she blocked me on Twitter.”
Courtney added: “All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realising her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”
And it seemed like the rest of the world agreed with the mother-of-two sensationally losing a number of high-profile business contracts in recent months.
Chrissy first lost her contract with American mega-mart Target, although the brand said its decision was made in December – months prior to the tweets coming to light.
Then another huge retailer in the US, Macy’s, appeared to have removed Chrissy’s cookware range, Cravings, from their online site.
Next was luxury US department store Bloomingdale’s, who, according to Page Six, was just hours away from signing a contract with the prolific tweeter, which would have seen the former model host a promotional gig for the iconic chain, but it pulled out because of the media storm surrounding her.
Perhaps pre-empting a further fallout, Chrissy recently bowed out of an appearance in a Netflix show amid the bullying allegations.
The show follows the life of a high school teen with celebrity stars featuring on the series to provide voice-over commentary for episodes.
Chrissy had been due to feature in the second season, but a spokesperson for the show told Variety that “the role is expected to be recast”.
While some of Chrissy’s fans still support her, more worrying reports are coming out of the woodwork.
Sadly, in what can only been seen as damning indictment, the model hasn’t only been accused of bullying Courtney.
Reports have surfaced that Freaky Friday actress Lindsay Lohan and troubled singer Demi Lovato were also subject to online abuse from the author.
Right-wing political commentator Candace Owens has called Chrissy a ‘massive, disgusting hypocrite’ in a furious rant over the cookbook author’s resurfaced tweets.
Weighing in on the unfolding drama, the talk show host fired: “Chrissy Teigen has offered a public apology to Courtney Stodden for encouraging her to commit suicide as a teenage, but ONLY because I blew the story up.
“The media has given Chrissy a pass for YEARS as she has monstrously attacked people, repeatedly simply for just existing.”
Candace than posted a number of historic tweets from Chrissy showing her to have attacked other famous faces in the past.
One sent to Lindsay Lohan in 2011 read: “Lindsay Lohan adds a few more slits to her wrist when she sees Emma stone.”
While another tweet targeted Sarah Palin, reading: “Listen. I don’t want much from sarah palin. I just want her to admit partial fault then shoot herself in the face. is that wrong?”
Other users have shared a post from Chrissy in 2018 where she criticised the contestants on reality show America’s Next Top Model.
“God. Can we just come out and call the freaking show America’s next top tr***y because this s***t has been t****tastic for the past five years,” tweeted Chrissy.
She also mocked Demi Lovato’s addiction issues by tweeting: “Demi Lovato is out of rehab! I hope she’s made the bed for Charlie.”
Chrissy then tweeted that she felt like Lady Gaga ‘with lady parts’ and said Mariah Carey looked as though ‘there were 2-15 babies growing inside her,’ when the diva announced her pregnancy.
Another tweet directed at Canadian singer Avril Lavigne said: “If u told me I could have a kid but it would be exactly like Avril, I would choose to have a barren, sterile existence that ends when I die.”
Chrissy quit Twitter in March telling fans “her life goal is to make people happy” but the platform was now serving her “negatively”.
She returned to the site weeks later in which her handle describes her as ‘de-motivational speaker’, however the author is a now a lot more careful about what she tweets.
It remains to be seen whether Chrissy will make a triumphant return to the platform that put her so promptly under the spotlight, but something tells us she’ll stay in the shadows a while longer.
