Political relations between Deputy President William Ruto and his freshly acquired defectors from the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) may not be as smooth as recently projected by their propagandists.
Speaking at St Faith ACK Church, Ongata Rongai on Sunday, January 30, 2022, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi hinted at a state of quiet but deep discomfort within the newly formed Kenya Kwanza camp.
Addressing members of the press after the church service, Mudavadi revealed that the coalition which also includes FORD Kenya’s Moses Wetangula is yet to settle on an official presidential flagbearer for the upcoming August poll.
In an attempt to craftily sugarcoat this tense situation, the recently dethroned Luhya kingpin claimed that the highly anticipated decision is a “work in progress” and that their current priority is to unite the nation and ensure peaceful elections.
“Yes, ultimately we shall name the candidate who will fly the Kenya Kwanza flag in the elections. However, at the moment our priority is to unite Kenyans and ensure we have a peaceful election,” he said.
Additionally, Mudavadi took the chance to respond to his harsh detractors who have been constantly on his neck following his rather politically submissive move of teaming up with severely tainted Ruto.
He noted that the decision is a well thought out calculation that was reached after wide and deep consultation within his now deflated party.
Mudavadi maintained that he joined hands with Ruto after the realisation that the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) where he was a co-principal with Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper party, Gideon Moi of Kanu was a government project meant to stall his ambitions.
The Kenya Kwanza alliance have recently been on a vigorous national tour that included a visit to Kirinyaga County on Saturday.
Speaking to a meticulously mobilized crowd, the leaders exuded confidence that their coming together has significantly raised their chances of forming the next administration.
