Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra ‘liked’ a photo on social media of Uruguay striker Luis Suarez crying following his country’s World Cup exit on Friday night.
Uruguay secured a 2-0 victory over Ghana, but a late goal from South Korea saw the Asians defeat Portugal and progress through to the knockout stage at the expense of the South American outfit.
This year’s World Cup is likely to be the last major competition for Suarez who was left in tears after the full-time whistle. The 35-year-old started in attack alongside Liverpool man Darwin Nunez, but was withdrawn in the second half.
But there was no sympathy for Suarez from his long-time rival Evra, who ‘liked’ his an inconsolable image on social media.
Evra’s feud with Suarez dates back to 2011, when the Frenchman accused Suarez of making a racist comment towards him during an EPL clash between Liverpool and United.
Suarez pleaded innocent but the FA found him guilty of the offence and banned him for eight games and fined him £40,000.
When they met in the following season, Suarez refused to shake Evra’s hand during the pre-game line-ups at Old Trafford. The match ended 2-1 in favor of Manchester United and Evra was seen celebrating the victory right in front of the striker.
Uruguay endured a frustrating World Cup campaign in Qatar having won one, drawn one and lost one of their three Group H matches. They needed to beat Ghana in their final group match, which they did, but it wasn’t enough to send them to the last 16 since they leveled on points with South Korea, but had had fewer goals.
