A photo went viral claiming to show a police vehicle outside former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s home.
However, a reverse image search showed the picture was first shared in 2020 during the night arrest of Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
DCI boss Amin Mohamed claimed Matiang’kei conspired with several leaders from Azimio to stage-manage the purported raid.
A section of Kenyans allied to the Azimio la Umoja political faction has seemingly been under pressure to prove that elite police officers raided former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s Karen home in Nairobi.
This was after pro-government netizens demanded photos or videos of the purported raid, which allegedly occurred on the evening of Wednesday, February 8. During the online exchange over whether the invasion occurred, a photo went viral claiming to show a police vehicle outside Matiangi’s home.
“Those asking about the photos, these are five police vehicles that cruised to Fred Matiang’i’s compound on Wednesday night. Let us stop defending impunity,” he said.
However, A reverse image search showed the picture was first shared in 2020. It was captured during the night arrest of Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi.
During the arrest, a contingent of police officers camped outside Sudi’s compound, aiming to arrest him over incitement allegations.
In other news, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) rubbished claims that Matiangi’s home was raided.
DCI boss Amin Mohamed claimed Matiang’i conspired with several leaders from Azimio to stage-manage the raid with the aim of causing fear.
The DCI said its investigations had revealed that the activities at Matiang’i’s home began at around 8pm last night when he told his guards that he was expecting guests, among them lawyers, at his home.
The lawyers went for a meeting upon arrival, and they were soon joined by ODM leader Raila Odinga and other politicians; the lawyers held a press conference moments later.
“We uncovered evidence of a well-coordinated effort to spread false information and spread public fear,” Amin told the press, adding that Matiang’i was under investigation for an undisclosed crime.
