Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, today, announced that the county had agreed to partner with the Ministry of Transport to undertake various works along the Nairobi Expressway, including creating the CBD exit.
Sakaja affirmed that they had agreed on the exit to be based at the Green Park Terminus, adding that more consultations would follow.
On the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), he noted that his administration was keen on undertaking the project with Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) with electric buses set to be deployed.
Road agencies would meet with Members of Parliament elected in the city to discuss the road projects.
The governor made the revelation after meeting with Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Sakaja explained that the move aimed to create a seamless transport network in the city and provide Nairobi residents with quality roads.
Other projects to be undertaken include rehabilitating and upgrading Waiyaki Way along the 27- kilometer road.
“We agreed on the alignment of Road and infrastructure projects with my brother CS Murkomen and my team and the National Government team.
“These include Waiyaki Way/Expressway works, Westland’s stage, informal settlements & BRT through NaMATA in whose council I deputise the CS,” he stated.
However, he did not give details of the timelines and the costs involved.
Sakaja’s announcement came days after he approved the construction of the Nairobi Expressway exit at Green Park Terminus and Uhuru Park.
The lack of an exit to the CBD has limited motorists wishing to enter town using the road project initiated by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Uhuru officially launched Nairobi Expressway on June 31, 2022.
