Wanuri Kahiu, Award-winning Kenyan film director is on her way to join the Kenyan sensation Lupita Nyong’o in Hollywood for a big role in the film industry.
Kahiu, 39, is popular for her Rafiki movie, which was condemned by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) for having indecent content.
The controversial film brought Wanuri to the limelight in 2018 when she became the first Kenyan filmmaker to premiere a movie at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film supportS same-sex relationships, a matter that Kenya’s moral police Ezekiel Mutua ( as KFCB CEO) was not happy and called for the film to be banned.
Two years later and Wanuri has made giant strides after she was selected to direct the film The Black kids, which is an adaptation from the novel by Christina Hammonds set for release later in the year.
