Health officials in Bomet County have placed at least 80 people in self-quarantine over fear of spreading the novel coronavirus.
According to health officials, all the individuals were members of one family where one had tested positive for the deadly global infection on Wednesday, July 8, in Konoin constituency.
“A total of 80 members of his extended family have been traced and asked to go into self-quarantine with close monitoring by administrators and public health officers,” said Joseph Sitonik, county executive in charge of health.
Sitonik confirmed the man who was working at Unilever Tea Company, was taken into isolation at the factory hospital within a tea farm in the neighbouring Kericho county.
On July 9, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 447 more COVID-19 cases in increasing case load from 8,528 to 8,975.
This was the highest figure ever recorded in the country, an indication perhaps Kenya was approaching its peak in terms of viral infection.
This was the highest number of positive cases the country had recorded within a single day since March 13 when the disease was first reported.
