On 24th October 2019, Peter Ndegwa was appointed as the company’s Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2020.
He joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC where he is the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe.
Peter Ndegwa is the former managing director of Guinness Nigeria Breweries PLC and the head of Diageo’s operations in Europe. He was the first African to hold the position of the head of operations in Diageo.
Diageo is a British global company that makes alcoholic beverages. Its subsidiaries include Hennessy and Guinness Ghana Breweries. Diageo also owns part of East African Breweries Limited.
He joined Diageo in 2004 as the strategy director for East African Breweries Limited (EABL). Before joining EABL, Ndegwa worked at PwC where he was the sales director between 2006 and 2008. The new general manager of Diageo Europe also headed Guinness Ghana Breweries between 2011 and 2015.

Wife
Peter Ndegwa is married to Jemmimah Ndegwa.
While in an interview with the Business Daily, in 2015, Ndegwa commended his wife for being understanding and supportive of his career which required him to move around the world a lot.
“She has had to sacrifice a part of her own career as a marketer to raise our son,” he said, adding that “…I committed to be present for my family. I never leave my family when I move jobs, I travel with them,” he said.
Children
The couple is blessed with one kid, a son by the name Ryan who is 10 years old.
Education
Ndegwa is an accountant with an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi.
