Centum RE has been awarded the EDGE Champion recognition from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank , as part of its commitment to certify 100% of its portfolio with the EDGE Certification.
Centum Re is committed to partnering with IFC to foster the decarbonization of the built environment in both Kenya and Uganda.
An innovation of IFC, EDGE is an online platform, a green building standard and a certification system for more than 150 countries.
EDGE was created in response to the need for a measurable solution to prove the financial case for building green and help jumpstart the mainstreaming of green buildings.
It empowers building professionals to quickly and easily determine the most cost-effective ways to build green based on occupant behavior, building type and the local climate.
To date, Centum RE, has EDGE certified 137,704 SQM in Nairobi, Kenya, achieving 32% in energy savings, 29% in water savings and 64% less embodied energy in materials .
Centum RE plans to build and EDGE certify an additional 5,000 units across Kenya and Uganda over the next five (5) years.
