Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday represented President Uhuru Kenyatta in the ongoing induction of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs).
Over 30 CASs are convening at Kenya School of Government for short courses about management and administration.
President Uhuru Kenyatta created the positions given that the constitution limited him from creating additional ministerial posts.
Speaking during the event, Matiang’i asked the CASs to help the government implement its agenda, adding that President Uhuru Kenyatta asked them to stop politicking.
“Opened a 2 day induction workshop for all Chief Administrative Secretaries where I delivered H.E. The Presidents’ message on the need to focus on a one government approach for efficient delivery of government services to the public devoid of politicking,” he said, in a tweet.
“I emphasized that this would lead to greater peer accountability, reduction of red tape, and foster a team of oneness,” added the Interior minister.
President Uhuru Kenyatta elevated Dr Matiang’i as the coordinator of the government implementation team, a move that irked tensions within the government.
Politicians allied to DP William Ruto accused the president of creating the post to undermine the DP, a move which Uhuru denied.
Since then, Matiang’i has represented the president in various functions, becoming one of the most trusted allies of the President.
