Doctor commits suicide in her car at KNH parking lot – The Informer

A paediatrician at Kenyatta National Hospital committed suicide inside her car on Saturday afternoon at the Kenya’s biggest referral hospital parking lot.

Dr. Lydia Wahura Kanyoro,35, committed suicide inside her car by injecting herself
with anaesthesia-inducing drugs.

According to the police, her body was found was found lying in the back seat of her car.

“She was lying in the back seat and had injected a syringe on her left arm,” police said.

Wahura is said to have left an ongoing MA class at the University of Nairobi that is within the hospital moments earlier before committing suicide.

Detectives at the scene of crime recovered two bottles of drugs labelled: ketamine and midazolam alongside a syringe.

Kilimani police Commander Andrew Muuri yesterday said the drugs had been taken
to the Government Chemist for analysis.

“We are also in possession of a printed suicide note believed to have been authored by the deceased which will also be subjected to analysis to establish if it was indeed, among other things, written by the deceased,” he said.

She left behind a printed suicide note, which is being analysed by detectives to establish the motive the committing suicide.

Wahura is said to have also called some of her relatives to tell them where she was and what she had planned to do, before committing suicide.

The head of security at the School of Medicine, George Onyango, said he spotted
the body at the back seat of her car, a Mazda Verisa, within the hospital’s parking lot on Saturday 1pm.

A post-mortem on her body is planned for today to establish the cause of her death.

Wahura was a postgraduate student in Paediatrics at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences within KNH.

Since Covid-19 pandemic struck the country, cases of depression have been on the rise in the medical field.
