Dp Ruto lands in West Pokot, visits patients at Kapenguria County Teaching and Referral Hospital

Deputy President William Ruto on Monday arrived in Kapenguria, West Pokot County after Interior CSs Fred Matiang’i and his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa cancelled the trip.

The Deputy President visited patients and victims of the West Pokot landslides at the Kapenguria County Teaching & Referral Hospital.

Sixteen people are still receiving treatment at the Kapenguria County hospital while two who were in critical conditions were referred to Moi Teaching and Referral hospital in Eldoret.

Dr Ruto was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Pokot South MP David Pkosing during the Monday visit.

Accompanied by IG Hillary Mutyambai, Dr Matiang’i and CS Wamalwa were forced to land in Eldoret after being advised that helicopters could not fly into Kapenguria due to bad weather.

Addressing the press Monday in Eldoret, Dr Matiang’i said the government is working closely with the West Pokot County leadership on the ongoing rescue mission.

Police IG added that the rescue teams are moving families to safer grounds and taking the injured to nearest hospitals.

Speaking to the press Monday at the county hospital, Dr Moses Deng said that most of the patients sustained minor injuries and only one had a fracture.

County officials divulged that the county morgue cannot handle the bodies but they have asked Kitale County Referral Hospital to help them with the storage.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains will continue for the next 5 days in many parts of the Country and urged Kenyans to remain cautious.
