DCI detectives have in their latest discovery establish that the registration number plate of a Toyota Land cruiser that they seized from the home of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was forged

After analysis of the vehicles seized, the detectives established that the vehicle under the registration number KCW 289Q belonged to a Mazda car and not the black Land Cruiser. The Mazda is however owned by a lady identified by police as Irene Mueni.

“We are looking for the lady. Not as a suspect but as a person of interest since her vehicle’s number plate has been found in another car,” said a detective.

The detectives also said that they are now keen to establish how the Toyota Land Cruiser was registered and whether its duty was paid.

“He wanted to remove the number plates when we indicated that we would tow all the vehicles to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters. From there, we knew he was trying to conceal something,” said the detective.

Echesa was being investigated over another vehicle allegedly owned by a lady, who had filed a complaint at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters, but as it appears it’s not a fresh case since it was subject of controversy in 2016, when President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated him to the cabinet as the sports CS.

However, he was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Echesa is accused of deceptively acquiring the vehicle, formerly owned by the lady’s late husband, Echesa’s lawyer Brian Khaemba has defended his client saying he acquired the motor vehicle legally.

On Monday officers from the DCI, raided the home of Echesa, and seized five of his vehicles. The cars included a Toyota Land Cruiser, VW Passat, Mercedes Benz E-Class, and a Ford.
