Today, Kenya Power (KPLC) has attributed to the nationwide electricity outage to system disturbance.

The utility firm apologized while promising to restore the power supply immediately.

Kenya Power noted that the outage occurred around 6:25 pm, affecting different parts of the country.

“We have lost bulk power supply to various parts of the country due to a system disturbance,” KPLC’s statement read in part.

“We are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due course,” the power supplying company stated.

The power outage alert followed a series of complaints raised by Kenyans online.

“Hello, we have no power in Pangani. Is there a problem?”  Cynthia Wamboe wrote on Twitter.

“We have lost bulk power supply in your area due to system disturbance. We are working towards restoration within the shortest time possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused,” the utility firm responded.

Juja, Pangani, Parklands, Lang’ata, Kangundo Road and Rongai residents were among the customers who alerted Kenya Power of the outage.

In November 2022, the country experienced another power outage. The affected areas included Nairobi, Mombasa, Busia, Kakamega, Kiambu, Makueni, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Kilifi, Kajiado, Machakos, Garissa and Eldoret.

KPLC attributed the nationwide power outage to system failure. However, technicians managed to restore the power supply on time.

To address frequent outages, KPLC adopted new transformers containing aluminum windings instead of copper.

The requirement was expected to control the quality of transformers while at the same time preventing vandalism.
