Nairobi city residents have been advised to stay vigilant when dealing with a self-hyped Instagram personality believed to be a serial conman.
On the internet and in social circles, King’ori (alias “King Jamal) portrays himself as a flamboyant entrepreneur with an interest in reputable sectors like Infrastructure, Technology, and Entertainment.
“Family, Duty, Honor,” reads part of his Instagram biography.
His victims, however, tell a different tale.
From a series of Twitter posts seen by kenyanbulletin.com, Mr. King’ori is strongly linked to multiple fraudulent business schemes, mostly targeting his close friends and acquaintances.
The shocking can of worms was unearthed by a viral tweet from an angry netizen who fell for his tricks and sought to seek out other victims.
“How many people have been conned by this guy @Jamal_II ?” reads the post published by one Valentine (@chugi_v) on Thursday, 15 September 2022.
This quickly sparked reactions and within a few moments, many of King’ori’s past victims descended upon the tweet to air out their grievances.
“I have no words for this guy, Skuizi ata staki kuona Lyft inanikumbusha pesa yangu,” wrote Moitalel
(@shunetisaac).
“A friend and I have. Luckily we got our money back after cops were involved,” Mwangi (@Mwass_) added.
Technology has made it possible for us to meet people from all continents in the comfort of our phones, laptop, or computer.
As a result, you will meet genuine business people and con artists posing as entrepreneurs, but in reality, they are out to scam you.
Below are some of their characteristics:
- Private Account
The con’s social media account will always be private. You will never access it to see friends or family photos.
- Doesn’t use real names
This is the biggest giveaway of most cons
They will either use two English names or names that will throw people off the scent of their real identity
They are embarrassed by their friends finding out the real source of “god’s blessings” that has launched them into wealth overnight.
- Flowery language
The language they will use includes mentions of God, but woe unto you if you are the kind who is always inquisitive because that’s when they will unleash the intense profanities that can only be whispered in the cover of darkness.
- Newer phone numbers
It’s rare to see a con with a ‘0722’ number or some of the other ‘veteran’ phone numbers. They will always have recently launched numbers for mobile cash purposes before throwing them away once enough suckers have been netted, and they change numbers.
- No physical address
Cons have no physical addresses for their business, preferring to pretend they operate from home. As a result, meeting them is even more chaotic due to silly excuses followed by cat and mouse games.
Be on the lookout!
