The Interior Ministry has issued a warning to Kenyans regarding cons who are using Huduma Namba to swindle people.
Kenyans have been receiving texts from people requesting for money claiming that they would receive their registration numbers once they pay.
“Don’t fall for traps set by fraudsters sending out texts and making calls asking you to pay some money for your Huduma Namba details,” stated the Interior ministry.
Adding,
“Once NIIMS is up and running, all communications will be done through our official channels. No fee will be charged whatsoever. Let others know.”
All persons living in Kenya were required to register for Huduma Namba which will facilitate access to government services.
In July, the Interior Ministry published the Huduma Namba Bill 2019 that will make it compulsory for all Kenyans to have Huduma Namba from December.
The number will be a must-show for Kenyans seeking services from government agencies for instance in the acquisition of passports, driving licenses, registration of mobile phone numbers and in registration as a voter.
The Huduma Namba will also be mandatory in payment of taxes at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), opening of bank accounts and undertaking land transfers.
