Governor Orengo Takes a Swipe at DP Gachagua

Siaya Governor James Orengo has called out Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua saying he has lacked manners.

This was after his push and pull with Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja that involved his move to ban matatus from Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

The Governor, who was speaking during the memorial service of Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah’s late father Mzee Tito Jakoya in Indangalasia, Kakamega county, told the Deputy President to keep off the affairs of Nairobi.

“Deputy President amekosa adabu… Amekosa adabu kabisa! (The Deputy is so mannerless). I’m saying this because the head of Nairobi County Government is my brother Sakaja

”A tough leader who got votes from everywhere within Nairobi. So if there is a problem in Nairobi, Sakaja can only talk with the president Dr Ruto and not through his deputy. That is per the constitution,” Orengo said.

The governor stated that he was not speaking from the parochial or ethnic basis but as per the constitution,.

“Nobody can be called to account for the affairs of Nairobi except Governor Sakaja and this is as per the constitution,” he said.

The difference between Gachagu and Sakaja has kicked off a storm with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance with political leaders taking openly sides on the matter.

Leaders from Western region have sided with Sakaja while their counterparts in Mount Kenya region have rallied behind Gachagua.

Over the weekend, Bumula MP Wanami Wamboka threatened to bring a motion in parliament to impeach the DP, saying he has become a ‘tribal chauvinist.’

“We want to call out Gachagua that if you do not respect yourself as the Deputy President of Kenya, we will not respect you,” Wamboka said, while terming the DP’s utterances as a ‘big embarrassment to the Republic of Kenya.
