As President Uhuru Kenyatta continued to ease COVID-19 containment measures during his 12th address on COVID-19, Deputy President William Ruto missing from his side attracted a lot of attention.
The DP had been listed in the official programme as one of the speakers at the conference. He was supposed to welcome the President. Without an apology, he did not show up.
The conspicuous absence of Deputy President William Ruto from the key conference has now been defended vehemently by tanga tanga lieutenants.
When asked why the DP did not attend the conference despite him being listed as a speaker, Dr Ruto’s spokesman Emmanuel Talam said: “I don’t know if he was invited”.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot took to social media to urge those asking why the Deputy President’s skipped the event leaving a seat reserved for him to remain unoccupied just next to the President to stop the hypocrisy.
“If Ruto contribution counted, how comes he has never been invited to any Government of Kenya COVID-19 response meeting? Now you want him to join the COVID millionaires in sharing their looting success!! No to sanitizing the Kemsa scammers,” He posted on Twitter.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa was not left out either, “So they want to pretend Ruto missed this one? After deliberately keeping him out of their meetings since March, hoping to use the pandemic to shine.” He posed.
In the meantime, Kenyans are a happy lot after President Uhuru ordered for the re-opening of bars which will now operate until 10pm.
