IEBC Commissioners Fled to Siberia After Bomas Chaos

A commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Abdi Guliye has revealed details of the anxiety and intimidation they faced days after the announcement of the presidential results at the Bomas of Kenya.

Guliye narrated how together with Commissioner Boya Molu and IEBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marjan Hussein they fled when the Bomas fiasco unfolded moments before the results were announced.

“After the Bomas announcement of the results, I recall going to Siberia in my own country together with Molu and Marjan. We went into hiding; we had to put off our phones leave them in Bomas,” he narrated.

“We sent away our security and we rode in a Noah to an unknown location, our only contact to Kenya and the world was the television.”   he said.

The IEBC Commissioner revealed that after hiding for three days they realized that the country had peacefully moved on from the highly contested election pitting President William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

“After three days of hiding we realized that Kenyans had moved on and we said we can longer hide. Those were part of the trials that we faced,” Guliye stated.

He recalled that they had personal tragedies which included their families having miserable times following the Bomas fiasco.

“We surmounted the trials and tribulation through courage, dedication and devotion to God. We uphold our oath of office and rule of law,” Guliye said.

Fracas unfolded at Bomas of Kenya after IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati arrived to announce the presidential results.

People started throwing chairs around as others started fighting each other but police tried to calm the situation.
