The drama that surrounds the Nyandarua County leadership doesn’t seem anywhere close to over, but is in fact seemingly just getting started, and if events that have just unfolded are anything to go by, then things might have just taken a turn for the worst.

While there has been upheaval in the county for quite a while now, recent events seem to have been triggered by the latest impeachment of speaker Ndegwa Wahome who has now been impeached four times, the first time being in December last year.

On Tuesday, Hon. Wahome attempted a coup of sorts after he stormed back to the county assembly grounds with five MCAs who are supporting him, and their supporters. He tried to gain access into the assembly and resume his House duties, with the argument being that he had been reinstated by Judge Joel Ngugi’s ruling.

In his entourage was Gatimu MCA Kieru Wambui who planned to table a Notice of Motion of Impeachment against the governor, Francis Kimemia.

However, now the Member of County Assembly for Leshau Pondo, Hon. Peter Kamau Gathungu, has come forward with startling claims that Governor Kimemia privately approached him and offered him a bribe which he declined.
A staunch supporter of the ousted speaker, Gathungu said that the ouster of Ndegwa Wahome was being conducted irregularly since, not only had the courts already rescinded the decision, but there had also been a lot of bribery going on during his impeachment.

He then went ahead to reveal that during the lobbying for Ndegwa Wahome’s impeachment, Kimemia had approached him and attempted to convince him to vote in favour of the motion to impeach Ndegwa, but he alleges that he refused, and turned down the illegal offer.

If these claims are found to be true, Kimemia faces jail time. However, if he is found to be lying, then he himself, faces jail time.

Tuesday witnessed chaotic scenes, with Ndegwa and his group managing to breach the defences of the County Assembly, but failing to penetrate into the House chambers, after being locked out by their opponents.
