Kirinyaga OCS transferred following death of two suspects inside police station

The OCS at Wanguru Police Station in Kirinyaga County, Francis Bundi, has been transferred amid public outcry from residents who have been demanding justice over the death of two remandees.

The two suspects; Martin Musyoka, 55, and John Njeru aged 28 from Tebere and Thiba wards respectively, died on Sunday with police claiming they succumbed to COVID-19.

Their bodies were found at Kerugoya mortuary on Sunday evening by their relatives who maintain that their kin were allegedly killed by police.

Local leaders led by the area Member of Parliament Kabinga Wachira Wathayu, who is a member of the National Assembly Security Committee, want investigations into the death of the two conducted by independent bodies.

Area ward MCA Gudson Muchina called for the prosecution of the OCS, Francis Bundi saying that he should be held responsible for the incident.

On Monday, Mwea-East OCPD Daniel Kavita said there were five remandees who were rushed to Kimbimbi hospital but the two succumbed to COVID-19.

The two bodies are lying at the Kerugoya mortuary awaiting postmortem.
