Lands and Physical Planning Cabinet Secretary Faridah Karoney has directed the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate allegation of corrupt officers and illegal acquisition of private land at the Eldoret lands office.
Ms Karoney ordered the kickoff of the investigations after reports emerged that lawyers and corrupt officers working at the lands office were grabbing land belonging to the 2007/08 post elections violence victims who did not return to their lands.
For instance, John Maina, 85, has lost his five-acre land which has since be sub divided into 23 plots ready for sale.
The land situated at Ilula area, Uasin-Gishu County is worth Sh25 million.
Lands officials who spoke on condition of anonymity revwaked that CID officers were investigating the matter.
They particularly said that the current focus was of John Maina’s five acre pieve of land since it had been reported.
They added that further transactions on the land had been stopped and that it could revert back to him once the paperwork was complete and suspects arrested and charged in the court of law.
