Sources allied to Tanzania’s Ikuli have been alleging that President JP Magufuli is determined to wipe out all opposition candidates.
One of Magufuli’s biggest political threat is former MP now Tanzanian opposition figure Tundu Lissu.

3 years ago, a team of highly trained assasins led by the Dar’es-salaam Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda tailed then Singida East MP Tundu Lissu and made attempts on his life.
The team which was led by a close protection officer attached to Ikulu was directed to ensure that the MP was killed as he was becoming a thorn in the flesh of Magufuli.
The team used two cars, a Nissan Patrol and white saloon car to monitor the movements of the MP in Dodoma while RC Makonda coordinated the operation from a hotel in Dodoma. Makonda arrived in Dodoma one day before the operation with the sole purpose of executing the mission.
On 8th June this year, Lissu declared interest to challenge incumbent John Magufuli for the presidency and had picked nomination papers from his Chadema party through representatives.
