Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has opined that Deputy President William Ruto should take over the Presidency until 2022.

On Tuesday, June 15, 2021, Peoples Empowerment Party (PEP) leader claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially joined the opposition and therefore his deputy should take charge of the Government.

In his statement that he posted on his social media page, the Gatundu South legislator pointed out on recent remarks by President Uhuru in the Ukambani region where he promised to back one candidate from the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition.

He alleged that Uhuru had abandoned his duties as President and the leader of the Jubilee party to campaign for the NASA coalition.

“Uhuru
has left government to join the Opposition. Since there cannot be a
vacuum, we urge Ruto to take over as President, Uhuru to go to the
opposition. For the remaining period until 2022, Ruto should continue with
the Jubilee government agenda according to the law,” Kuria stated.

Kuria compared his claims to that of 2007 when Uhuru allegedly left the opposition seat vacant and joined the government hinting that the Head of State had opted to do the same but with the opposition.

“In 2007, Uhuru made history when he left the Office of the Leader of Official Opposition to support the government. He has done it again, this time leaving the Presidency to become a NASA activist,” Kuria stated.

The outspoken lawmaker also poked holes in the 2018 famous handshake between President Uhuru and the Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“When
Uhuru and Raila made the handshake agreement in 2018, Raila called his party
members to explain to them what the agreement entailed.

“On the other hand, Uhuru has never called us (Jubilee) to explain the essence of the handshake as well as the BBI agenda, ” Kuria stated.

He further alleged that the Head of State has been held captive and has abandoned the Mount Kenya region.

“Our
President is under siege, he has been taken captive, we have no one to turn to,
we are on our own,” he affirmed.
