Nine people among them two local politicians have been summoned to the Narok DCI offices to record statement on allegations that they bought land and built houses for the over 3,000 families evicted from the Maasai Mau forest without NEMA permission.
The nine among them Ololung’a MCA Jefferson Lang’at,former Narok Senatorial aspirant on National Vision Party (NVP) Albert Kiplang’at and personal assistant to the Emura Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno identified as Carlos Keter.
Other six were the committee officials of the about 10,000 evictees kicked out of the Mau forest who were coordinating the temporary resettlement.
Narok County Criminal Investigating Officer(CCIO)Mr Ethaipa Mwenda who addressed Journalists after the Monday late evening incident said they were investigating possibility of the suspects flouting environment Act.
“We have summoned them after receiving reports that the families who were ejected from the forest have bought land near the forest and wanted to settle there.
We want to know whether they breached the NEMA act or not,”said Mr Mwenda.
The nine were however set free and will know their fate come January 2,2020 in relation to the incident that arose after Kalenjin politicians contributed money to buy the evictee land after government remained adamant on compensation.
Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ng’eno who was the lawyer to the team termed the summonses as illegal and were meant to frustrate those evicted from the forest.
He maintained that there was no law barring people from establishing a slum or a refugee camp anywhere in the country.
