Murathe speaks on appearing before National Assembly Public Investment Committee over his alleged KEMSA scandal – Kenyan_Report

Jubilee party Vice Chairman David Murathe has agreed to honour the summon by the National Assembly Public Investment Committee (PIC) following claims that he was involved in the multi-billion Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) tender scam. 

Murathe stated that he would avail himself before members of PIC to clarify his affidavit after he was accused of playing a role in the flawed tender process. 

The Jubilee party Vice Chair argued that his sworn affidavit document was misinterpreted by the legislators who accused him of corruption and embezzlement of public funds.

“I will be going to the committee on Thursday, April 29. I asked to appear in person to shed light on this matter but I was instructed to do an affidavit which is self-explanatory. I am not a beneficiary, owner, director, or shareholder at the company. I was just loaning the managers who are known to me,” Murathe stated.

He also stated that the contract was cancelled and that there was no procurement, delivery, or invoice raised.

“What is this farce with me? I am not a signatory. This is just politics and they are making it a big deal yet the contract was cancelled. There was no procurement, delivery, or invoice raised. This committee is supposed to protect the public interest in the event goods and services are overpriced or supply air,” Murathe told the Standard. 

This comes after DP Ruto’s allies led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen had alleged that Murathe will not be prosecuted subjected to prosecution due to his proximity to power and a confidant of President Uhuru Kenyatta. 

Lawmakers maintained that the Jubilee party Vice Chairman should be investigated over the matter.

“It seems he was brought to influence the process. His
role was to make sure that this thing was paid. We need him here in person
because Kenyans want to see this big fish who can influence payments of this
magnitude,” Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang claimed. 

Before admitting ties with Kilig Limited, Murathe had distanced himself from the scandal alleging that the shareholders were close allies of Deputy President William Ruto.
