Former Member of Parliament, Peter Kiilu, who served under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, has passed on.
In a condolence message, President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogised Kiilu, who was the MP for Makueni Constituency as a seasoned public administrator.
Kiilu passed away on Tuesday, May 19, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of comfort to the family of Hon. Peter Kiilu who passed away at a Nairobi hospital today. The President eulogised the former Makueni MP as a friendly and seasoned public administrator who served the Nation with distinction,” read a statement from State House.
It was, however, not stated what the cause of his death was or how long he had been ailing.
Kiilu served as a lawmaker after clinching the Makueni seat in 2007 under ODM before later decamping to the Wiper Democratic Movement.
In 2013, he launched a re-election plan under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) but lost to Daniel Maanzo.
The NARC Party, that morphed into the Party of National Unity (PNU) joined the Jubilee Alliance Coalition. In 2017, he also ran for the seat under Jubilee Party ticket but also lost.
During his tenure as a lawmaker, Kiilu served as a member of the Joint Committee on Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library (2008 – 2012) and as the vice-chair of the Administration and National Security Committee.
Prior to that, Kiilu had worked as a Provincial Commissioner from 1991 to 2003, District Commissioner from 1984 to 1991 and as district 0fficer (1977 – 1984).
He attended Maseno High School before joining the University of Nairobi.
