In what would appear as a jibe towards the deputy president William Ruto and his allies who are opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative, President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted that he will traverse the country to drum up support for BBI.
The president did not disclose whether referendum was cooking but he stressed it that he was committed to use BBI not only to leave behind a legacy but a united and stable country built on sustainable peace.
He said that he is asking for God´s help to ensure that Kenya is never divided along ethnic lines after elections, no blood is shed, families displaced and no property is destroyed. The president was addressing an ecstatic crowd in Ngong while launching the Nairobi – Suswa standard gauge railway.
The president refuted claims that BBI is a political ploy to keep dynasties in power beyond 2022. It´s suspected that the BBI report will be handed over to him and his handshake partner Raila Odinga during Mashujaa day celebrations in Mombasa on Sunday.
Conflicting reports are emerging that the 14man team led Senator Yusuf Hajji is recommending an overhaul of the governance style from presidential to parliamentary. The handshake proponents have however indicated that there is dire need to have an all inclusive government.
The president emphasized that BBI must be pushed and its recommendations implemented, he said that those opposed to the BBI are selfish politicians seeking personal gains at the expense of other millions of Kenyans.
President Uhuru was accompanied by more than ten cabinet secretaries urged young people to dimiss leaders who incite and cause divisions for personal gains. DP Ruto is leading a team opposed to the BBI and is on record calling on people to reject it because it only aims at creating positions to accomodate election losers in government.
