Mariam Kighenda’s Family To Sue KFS

Johansen Oduor, Chief Government pathologist has through an hour and half long autopsy session that Mariam Kighenda and her 4-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu died out of suffocation.

The government had ordered a post-mortem to be conducted, today Wednesday be conducted on the bodies two who drowned at the Likoni Ferry Crossing Channel after their car plunged into the Indian Ocean two weeks ago.

The remains of Mariam and her daughter are preserved at Jocham Hospital mortuary in Mombasa where the post-mortem was conducted.

Luka Mbati the family spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the results. He, also added that the burial arrangements will kick off immediately.

Mr. Mbati has also stated that the family will sue Kenya Ferry Services over the incident where Marriam’s car slipped out of MV Harambee ferry and sunk into the deep.

Their bodies and the car were retrieved from the Likoni Ferry Crossing channel 13 days after the incident occurred.

John Wambua, the late Mrs Kigenda’s husband and Father to Amanda said his wife Mariam Kighenda was an experienced driver and he believes she would never have made such a mistake to reverse out of the ferry midstream.

“She has been driving for over 10 years, she is a very careful driver… I doubt it was her negligence, you saw the car, it was in parking gear, the handbrake was activated,” says Wambua.

This comes after Kenya Ferry Services had earlier given Mariam Kigenda’s family Ksh.200,000 for funeral arrangements.

The late Mariam and her daughter Amanda are to be buried in Mung’ala village, Makueni County.
