Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader who is also the Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga is considering holding parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12.
According to report that leaked from a parliamentary meeting for Azimio la Umoja coalition allied MPs, Raila is to hold these celebrations together with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
This is according to a series of anti-government protest events that have been arranged by the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
The coalition had planned to start protests on November 30, with a political rally at Kamukunji. The rally was disguised as a protest against the ouster of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and her colleagues Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya, and Francis Wanderi.
A report that appeared in the Daily Nation further said that the opposition leader might start massive protests across the country at the end of President Ruto’s 100 days in office.
The report said that a tax boycott is also among the measures the coalition is considering pushing for. Others include civil disobedience, non-violent struggles, and what has been termed as other ‘unspecified consequences’.
