REVEALED: How DP Ruto allies had planned to block Raila Odinga from Meru’s BBI meeting

A move by Tanga Tanga leaders, allied to Deputy President William Ruto, to block ODM leader from attending the Meru BBI meeting backfired after they were shut down by leaders allied to the former Prime Minister and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Senator Mithika Linturi (Meru) and Chuka-Igambe Ngombe MP Patrick Munene were reported that they were against the attendance of the ODM leader in the meeting saying the meeting was for the Mt Kenya region.

Linturi was recorded questioning the intention of the Former Premier on the BBI report that was presented to President Uhuru on November 27, 2019.

“Meru people have so many questions for you [Raila] that are unanswered. One of the many questions is the key one that other Kenyans have. Will you accept defeat should you be floored in the next presidential election?

“We have no problem with the BBI agenda; we will ensure that all the recommendations are passed,” said Linturi.

The Igembe MP on his part said,

“We respect President Uhuru Kenyatta but we are requesting you not to allow Raila Odinga to be present because this is Mt Kenya meeting.”

The leaders were shut down by leaders allied to Uhuru-Raila handshake who told off them over their remarks.

At the time the leaders were speaking, it is reported that Raila had attended the Mt Kenya BBI conference, in Meru County, but was standing outside the venue.

Governor Kiraitu Murungi and Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina, key supporters of the BBI, forcibly went out and brought the ODM leader into the meeting.

That aside, the Mt Kenya BBI rally is going on at Kinoru Stadium, in Meru County.

ODM leader made his way into the stadium accompanied by the Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who has been mourning the death f his father and Kenya’s second Mee Daniel Moi, is also present.

Mt Kenya Governors led by Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Mwangi Wa Iria (Murangá), James Nyoro (Kiambu), Muhome Njuki (Tharaka Nithi) Francis Kimemia Nyandarua) and Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi were present.

The BBI meeting marks the sixth ever since the first was held at Kisii Stadium.

The BBI meeting aims at consolidating the views of the Mt Kenya region which they seek to be addressed in the BBI report.
