Seven covid-19 patients in critical condition put under ICU

Kenya’s Ministry of Health has revealed that 17 out of the 781 of the active Covid-19 patients are in critical condition.

Health miinistry’s Mary Nandili on Wednesday confirmed that 11 are in Intensive Care Unit, four are in incubation while two are under ventilation. She also clarified that 85% of patients in critical conditions have left ICU in the country.

The information comes as the number of rose to 3,094 after the country reported 105 new positive cases. The new cases were announced by Health CAS Rashid Aman who also noted that the youngest new Covid-19 case is two years  while the oldest is 77 years.

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries in kenya have risen to 1,048 with 175 discharges recorded on Wednesday. The CAS said from the ministry’s observation, patients who tend to progress to more severe conditions are either older patients or with other underlying conditions such as diabetes.

He however warned that young patients can also progress to more critical state.

“We have seen a number of cases of very young people who very quickly move to severe conditions and some of them have even passed on,” Aman said.

He said that the ministry has reported several incidences where individuals in their 30s dying of the virus in the country.

Earlier before the announcements was made, acting Heath DG Patrick Amoth said more than 50% of people who died of Covid-19 in the country were above the age of 60 years.
