Key aviation regulations are under review by Civil aviation stakeholders to ensure the growth of the local aviation industry.
Among the regulations in review is the cover personnel and operator licensing, safety management as well as aircraft operation .
Airworthiness, air navigation services as well as aerodromes is also under review.
The discussions are going on in a virtual forum organized by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
The virtual event commenced on June 14 scheduled to end on June 18, 2021.
The forum seeks to consult and gather comments from the industry and stakeholders regarding the proposed draft Civil Aviation regulations.
Nevertheless, the drafted regulations cover all key regulated civil aviation operational areas.
In a statement by KCAA, the regulations are being reviewed to enhance compliance with international Standards.
The regulations aim at promoting developments in the aviation industry.
Moreover, the regulations will also eliminate implementation challenges encountered concerning the existing ones.
KCAA Director General Captain. Gilbert Kibe stated that a review of the regulations will allow congruence with ICAO, to which Kenya is a member.
Stakeholders are participating in this review to have their comments factored in the revision of the regulations
Captain Kibe said.
Cover personnel and operator licensing, safety management, as well as aircraft operation are some of the regulations in review.
Nevertheless, the regulations will be adjusted to meet the need for a suitable regulatory framework for Civil Aviation in Kenya that promotes the safety culture.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) is the regulatory authority established by the Civil Aviation Act, 2013 as amended in 2016.
KCAA primary functions are regulation and oversight of aviation safety and security.
Safety security entail economic regulation of air services and development of Civil Aviation.
Other roles are the provision of air navigation services and training of Aviation personnel.
