Thugs vandalize a tabernacle after breaking into a church
Detectives based in Kericho county are investigating an incident where unknown thugs broke into the pastoral residence of St Mark Catholic Parish, in Litein, and left with an unspecified amount of money.
In the incident that shocked the priests who were fast asleep in an adjacent room, the thugs also gained entry into the church and vandalised the tabernacle, a liturgical furnishing used to house the Eucharist.
The Parish Priest Fr Moses Langat, reported to authorities at Litein police station, that on the night of May 31 and June 1st, unknown thugs broke into their house by shattering a window pane while he and other priests were fast asleep.
Crime Scene detectives have since visited both scenes and processed them forensically with the aim of bringing the suspects of the crime to book.
Here are some comments from Kenyans:
Zedekiah Nyakiti – “The church should stop politicians with criminal records from sitting at the altar and addressing the faithful, this is what is giving the criminals who have not been elected the encouragement to steal from the church because they no longer regard it as a sacred place due to the tainted image.”
Mike Anzigale – “That priest is the first suspect and this should be treated as an inside job until investigations reveal otherwise this is Kenya and stealing people’s money is our peace love and unity.”
Ishmael Mutai – “Unfortunately, Kericho is turning to be hostile to its habitat. Our leaders are also engaging in politics marred by tribal hatred and incitement talk across their campaigns. kindly monitor their posts closely.”
K’Obunga Captain Tisa – It could be very possible that the priests had squandered the money then hired the services of men known to them to attack the church to justify the narrative. I don’t trust people who call themselves men of God. The only man of God I know its not in Kenya.”
Eddy Gichia Chege – “That still doesn’t change the fact that there are 49million kangaroos in Australia and 3.5million people in Uruguay which means if the kangaroos were to invade Uruguay each person will have to fight 14 kangaroos”
Sosten Red-Boy Kiplimo-koech – “They were suffering and they had to seek refuge and assistance from the house of the all-forgiving God. Please allow them to enjoy the tithes in peace. I am sure they have even repented”
