Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano on Friday led a high-level government delegation to Nyandarua County, where she commissioned key rural electrification projects in Kinangop Constituency.

The visit formed part of a broader cross-sectoral initiative aimed at uplifting grassroots communities through infrastructure, education, and sustainable development.

Joined by Kinangop MP Hon. Zachary Kweya and Principal Secretaries Alex Wachira (Energy) and Eng. Joseph Mungai (Roads), CS Miano launched electricity connectivity programs targeting underserved areas, including Nyandarasi.

The projects, implemented in collaboration with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), aim to bring clean and stable power to homes, schools, and local enterprises.

“Electrifying rural homes is not just about power — it’s empowerment,” Miano said.

“It transforms the lives of women, enables children to study longer, and stimulates local economies.”

Though at the helm of the Tourism and Wildlife docket, Miano emphasized the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration in unlocking development across sectors.

She praised President William Ruto’s administration for prioritizing rural transformation through people-centered initiatives.

Earlier in the day, CS Miano also visited Karima Girls High School, where she engaged students in conversations about education, career growth, and leadership.

She encouraged the girls to aim for excellence and to envision themselves in leadership roles across public service, corporate sectors, and innovation-driven industries.

“These young women are the future of this nation,” she said.

“We must nurture their potential not just in classrooms, but by creating enabling environments where they can lead and innovate.”

As head of the tourism ministry, Miano has continued to advocate for inclusive development that recognizes the intersection between infrastructure, local empowerment, and the preservation of Kenya’s natural and cultural heritage. Electrification, she noted, plays a key role in enhancing community-based tourism experiences and promoting environmental stewardship.

Her visit underlines the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all development, from wildlife conservation to rural infrastructure, works toward equitable national progress and opportunities for all Kenyans.
