Tuju admits Raila’s swearing-in crowd couldn’t have been contained had it marched to State House – Kenyan_Report

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has perhaps now finally brought to an end, and closed the chapter, on one of the most contentious topics which has continued to be a sticking point even after the famous handshake between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta.

Despite the thawed relationship between Uhuru’s supporters and those of Raila Odinga, the former has continued to downplay the significance of Raila’s swearing in. Uhuru’s supporters have continued to maintain that the mock swearing in by the former Prime Minister was purely symbolic and posed no threat whatsoever to Uhuru’s presidency. As a matter of fact, they have maintained that the ceremony only managed to take place due to Uhuru’s magnanimity, and that had he decided he wasn’t going to allow a treasonous activity to take place within the country, then the whole thing would have been a flop.

Raila Odinga supporters, on the other hand, have always believed that, as a matter of fact, it was their man that showed graciousness by not following through on his threat to proceed to State House after being sworn in. They have continued to hold that had he led the mammoth crowd up the slope of Upper Hill, he would have unseated the president.

However, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju finally brought the issue to a close yesterday during a live interview on Citizen TV, with the station’s presenter Yvonne Okwara.

The Jubilee SG was responding to a query by Yvonne concerning his recent controversial remarks which seemed to threaten the Judiciary.

Tuju had earlier on appeared to insinuate that the safety and well-being of Judicial officers was dependent upon them knowing their place in the country’s pecking order.

Instead of revising his earlier statement, he doubled down on it, saying that Judges had to be alive to certain dynamics within the country when making some decisions. He said that 2017 could easily have turned into a bloodbath, and BBI seeks to ensure that such scenes are never repeated again.

He said that the crowd which turned up during Raila’s swearing-in at Uhuru Park was more than half a million, and if it had decided to march to State House, containing it wouldn’t have been possible, and the end result would have been disastrous.
