Police in Athi River on Friday, October 23 arrested two women involved in a child trafficking deal in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
21-year-old Diana Mwende together with her accomplice were arrested while in the process of selling a 2 weeks old male baby for Sh60,0000.
Mlolongo Division Assistant County Commissioner Dennis Ongaga said they laid a trap for the two women after a tip-off from the public.
The officers then posed as customers who wanted to buy the baby boy before arresting the culprits.
The women are currently being held at Mlolongo Police Station as investigations continue while the infant was handed over to a rescue center in Kitengela.
Ongaga said police investigations have revealed that girls aged below 18 years are also involved in the business where their peers are said to be women above 30 years.
