1 Man killed while trying to ambush Cops

One man lost his life, as 10 other suspects were caught after intercepting and trying to release his accomplices and a detective truck that previously fired 400 unused sugar sets.

DCI detectives and CIPU officers assigned to Kenya Revenue Authority, after attacks by the suspects were carried out, escorted the car which had been held at Chwele police station towards Kisumu.

Over 20 vehicles and an unknown number of motorcycles whose number plates were concealed were used to barricade the road at Makunga shopping Centre, with the gang attempting to seize the consignment and free the suspects.
“In the ensuing melee, one of our officers was attacked and injured seriously by the gang, leaving him with injuries on his chest and limbs.” DCI stated in a statement 
Luckily, a contingent of police officers from Kakamega that was headed to Chwele reinforced the officers, restoring sanity and helping in the arrest of the suspects. Three vehicles used by the suspects and a motorcycle were impounded and are currently at Kakamega police station.
The arrested suspects were, Evans Ariko, 22, Geoffrey Ikasalion, 28, Dan Oure, 23, Thomas Ekisa, 24, Isaac Etyang, 21, Sammy Oloo, 22, David Otieno, 27, Simon Ogema, 24, Kelvin Kasala, 21 and Winnie Muriuki, 22.
Also recovered were crude weapons including rungus and rocks that were in the possession of the suspects. They are currently being processed at Kakamega police station for arraignment.

In other news, A man in Nakuru has allegedly killed his two children by injecting them with insulin, before trying to commit suicide.

Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri has confirmed the unfortunate incident. The man identified as James Gakara injected his two children with insulin before turning to himself, but the effect of the insulin was slow on him.

We received a tip-off from the public that there was a commotion in a nearby house along Kilimani area. We immediately dashed to the scene and found the lifeless bodies of the two children in the house. Their father was still breathing,” Kiraguri said.

The man, Gakara was then rescued and taken to hospital under police escort. Police have since moved the bodies of the two children to Nakuru Municipal mortuary as investigations continue.

In Kenya, attempted suicide is against Chapter 63, section 226 of the Penal Code, which stipulates that any person who attempts to kill himself or herself is guilty of a misdemeanor. The penalty is up to two years in prison or a fine or both.
