Mali’s Moussa Marega walks off the pitch after being racially abused

FC Porto and Mali’s international Moussa Marega substituted himself out of his club’s match against Vitoria after being racially abused by the crowd.

Marega stormed off the pitch to a loud chorus of boos, 12 minutes after putting Porto in the lead. He walked off the pitch straight into the tunnels despites his teammates efforts to persuade him otherwise.

But even the efforts by the club boss Sergio Conceicao did not convince him to continue playing as he swore at fans in the stands on his way down the runnel.

The 28 year old striker, posted a picture of himself sticking his fingers up on his Instagram account as he hit out at his alleged offenders.

“To those idiots that go to the stadium to shout racist insults, go f*** yourselves,” Marega said.

Marega was however grateful to the referee for not carding him  for defending his skin colour.

Members of the Vitoria side had even attempted to keep Marega on the pitch.

While walking off the pitch  he had his thumbs down to the jeering supporters, as teammate Otavio tried to stop him but not support him.

He was replaced by Wilson Manafa after a few minutes. Marega’s goal had put Porto 2-1 ahead, and the he reportedly celebrated by pointing to his skin in response to jibes from Porto supporters.

That reaction to his goal earned him a yellow card from referee Luis Godinho.
