TV47 board of directors through its chairman has appointed news anchor Abubakar Abdullahi as the new Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment was made public through an internal memo dated Tuesday, June 30, sent to all TV47 staff.
The board also clarified the circumstances that led to the resignation of founding CEO Eugene Anangwe.
”We wish to confirm that our founding CEO Eugene Anangwe guided by provision of his contract had on June 9, 2020, tendered a resignation effective June 30, 2020.
“During his tenure, TV47 made several strides for growth including attracting competent staff from other media houses, innovative programmes, mentoring upcoming media personalities and establishment of the art infrastructure,” the memo read in part.
The board said it appointed Abdullahi as Anangwe’s replacement but the young scribe with be holding the position in an acting capacity.
”In view of the above and in enabling seamless transition of the CEO and while wishing, Eugene Anangwe the best of his endevours, the Board of Directors has officially appointed Abubakar Abdullahi as Acting Chief Executive Officer effective Wednesday, July 1,” the memo read.
Abdullahi’s appointment came barely a month after former Anangwe announced his exit from the station through Twitter.
”Goodbyes! Not so many people if not everyone wish for moments to say them; certainly me included! But these things are inevitable and I have come to that point myself- where I say goodbye to my team at TV47. I resigned due to personal reasons and I remain proud of my work,” he tweeted.
Before moving to his current position, Abdullahi was a news anchor at TV47.
